The Department of Human Services’ Holiday Aid Program assists disadvantaged Greenwich families and individuals at Thanksgiving and Christmas by providing food baskets, food vouchers or gift cards, toys, clothing and other gift items. The program is made possible by generous donations from community organizations, church groups, local businesses and private individuals.
The Department coordinates community efforts to provide food baskets to eligible Greenwich families and individuals at Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah. Baskets should contain foods and other items needed to make a traditional holiday dinner. Delivery of baskets to the recipient is welcome but can be arranged for you.
Food Vouchers/Gift Cards
All Holiday Aid recipients who do not receive a food basket are issued a voucher or gift card, which can be used at local supermarkets to purchase supplies for a holiday meal. Monetary donations from the community are used to purchase the vouchers/cards.
Unwrapped toys and young-teen gifts are distributed to the parents of disadvantaged children in time for the holidays. Donations of new toys are always needed for this event.
Community groups sponsor Angel Trees where specific clothing items, such as winter coats or boots and/or Toys are requested for children 0-18. Groups also sponsor Mitten Trees, donating hats, gloves mittens and warm socks which are distributed along with the toys.
